Jumbo River Kayaking Guide

The Jumbo River is a 15.5-mile tributary of the East Branch Ontonagon River in Iron and Houghton counties — not in Baraga County, as it is sometimes listed, and not a tributary of the Sturgeon River. It flows north through the Ottawa National Forest to join the East Branch Ontonagon at approximately 46.3761, -88.8983, and from there its water reaches Lake Superior via the Ontonagon River.

Beyond that USGS-documented identity, the Jumbo is essentially unrecorded as a recreational waterway. There is no DNR boat access site, no USGS stream gauge, and no documented canoe or kayak route on the river.
