Who we're for

We're an adventure-focused paddling club for active kayakers who want more miles, more skills, and more time outdoors. Trips range from Level 1 Beginner paddles to Level 4 Professional expeditions, including multi-day kayak camping and hiking adventures. All members must be 18 or older.

Code of Conduct

Respect trip leaders and follow the lead/middle/sweep structure. Stay behind the lead and ahead of the sweep.
Alcohol and drugs are strictly prohibited at all club events.
Treat every member with respect. Harassment or discrimination of any kind isn't tolerated.
Arrive on time and prepared. If you can't make a trip, let the leader know.
Choose trips that honestly match your ability and fitness.
Leave no trace: pack out everything you bring in.
Respect private property, landowners, and other river users.

Safety Requirements

Wear a properly fitted, Coast Guard–approved PFD at all times on the water.
Bring and maintain your own kayak, paddle, whistle, clothing, food, water, and emergency supplies.
All trips are self-supported. There's no guide, outfitter, or support crew.
Check weather and water levels before every trip.
In a medical emergency, call 911 immediately.

Assumption of Risk

Kayaking, hiking, and camping carry real risks, including injury, drowning, and death. By signing, you accept full responsibility for your own safety. You also agree that West Michigan Kayaking Club, its organizers, and its volunteers are not liable for injury, loss, or damage.

I have read and understand the Assumption of Risk and Liability Waiver, and I voluntarily accept it.

Membership year

Your agreement is valid from the day you sign until January 1. Every member re-signs each year, January 1 to January 1, to stay active.
