Slate River Kayaking Guide
The Slate River is a small stream in Baraga County near Skanee and Huron Bay, in the Huron Mountains' waterfall creek country alongside the Silver and Ravine rivers. Its fame is geological and scenic rather than paddling-related: the Slate River waterfall complex includes Slate River Falls plus nearby Quartzite, Black Slate, Slide, and Kukuck's Falls — a remarkable concentration of drops in a small area.

Paddling the Slate River
A waterfall complex, not a river trip
Slate River Falls, Quartzite, Black Slate, Slide, and Kukuck's Falls make this one of the densest waterfall clusters in the Huron Bay watershed. The river between the drops is short, steep, and rocky — hiking and photography water, not boating water.
