Overview

The Carp Lake River runs about 10.5 miles from Paradise Lake west to Lake Michigan in Emmet County. It is a small, scenic northern stream — and a fragile one: the river is known habitat for the endangered Hungerford's crawling water beetle, which makes low-impact paddling ethics especially important here. Research found no formal launch, no documented trip mileage, and no established paddling route; Oliver Road is a documented crossing. Treat the Carp Lake River as a delicate scouting stream, not a destination float.
