A Legend Is Born on the World’s Greatest River

Few rivers on Earth capture the imagination like the Amazon. Stretching thousands of miles through some of the most remote and untouched wilderness on the planet, the Amazon has always represented the ultimate challenge for explorers and paddlers.

In 2013, Darcy Gaechter made history by becoming the first female kayaker to paddle the entire Amazon River from source to sea.

Her incredible expedition covered approximately 4,300 miles, beginning at the river’s origins high in the Andes Mountains of Peru and continuing all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. The journey took 148 days and carried her through some of the most remote, dangerous, and demanding sections of the Amazon River system.

The Ultimate River Expedition

The Amazon is more than a river. It is a living wilderness filled with powerful currents, towering rainforest, unpredictable weather, and countless challenges.

From the high-altitude mountain streams near the river’s source to the massive jungle waterways of the lower Amazon, Darcy Gaechter faced a journey that tested every aspect of expedition kayaking.
